Greetings! I am Instructor Judy Davidoff, and I am pleased to be the instructor for this online version of CGS 1060C.

Let me tell you a little bit about myself-- my associate of arts degree in Management Information Systems is from Broward Community College, my bachelor's degree in Management Information Systems is from Barry University, and my master's degree in Computing Technology in Education is from Nova Southeastern University.

My full-time job at BCC is supervising the Academic Center for Technology computer lab for faculty and staff here at Central Campus. I am also responsible for the Central Campus web pages. I teach computer courses in my spare-time and my favorite place to get away to is Disney World with my family.

Course Description

This is an introductory course in basic computer and Internet use. It covers computer hardware and software fundamentals (including the use of Windows), key productivity applications (including word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation systems), and living in an online world (including network fundamentals, e-mails, and the effective use of the Internet as a communication tool and information resource). Students will develop basic computer skills to aid them with college studies and workforce readiness. Hands-on use of a personal computer is required.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this course the student will demonstrate the ability to:

1) know the essentials of computers, how to purchase, install and maintain a personal computer
2) perform basic mouse operations: launch and quit application programs: create, rename and delete folders and files
3) navigate the Internet to find information: create a web page: use BCC student email to communicate
4) create, save, edit and email documents using Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

You will be required to come to campus once (Building 17 Room 220 - Distance Learning Testing Center) to take your final December 2 - December 8, 2011.
